Free Estimates
Once your free estimate is scheduled, our design and sales specialist will visit your home at a time that works best for you to take measurements of the desired outdoor space. During this visit, we’ll explore various paver options from Belgard and Unilock, as well as decking materials from TimberTech Azek and Trex, while addressing any questions you may have. At Platinum Deck and Patio, we prioritize understanding your vision and needs, ensuring we create a plan that makes your outdoor space both unique and functional. Your specialist will guide you through the entire process, from planning to providing you with a detailed estimate proposal at no cost.
Our Proposals
After your free estimate, our design and sales specialist will diligently create and send you a no-obligation proposal. This proposal will outline the scope of work, specify the materials to be used in your project, and include a 3D rendering of your design, along with images of similar projects we’ve completed. These elements will help you visualize the overall concept more clearly.
We believe it’s crucial for our clients to understand both the materials involved and the entire process. Our 3D renderings are particularly valuable, as they provide a realistic preview of your finished project, making it easy to spot any desired adjustments or simply to appreciate how beautiful your patio or deck will look. Additionally, the proposal will showcase photos of our past projects that mirror your design, allowing you to see how your selected paver or decking materials will look in real-world applications.

During this consultation, we’ll finalize the colors for your project. At this stage, we kindly request the next 40% of the project cost. After this is completed, we’ll schedule the start date for your project, and our talented crews will get to work on building the outdoor space of your dreams.
The Deck and Patio Building Process
Deck Footing and Foundation
A strong foundation is key to any deck. Proper footings support the deck’s weight and prevent frost heave, which occurs when the ground shifts from freezing and thawing.
To prevent frost heave, we use two strategies:
- Footing Depth: We install footings 42 inches deep, below the frost line, following the International Building Code.
- Diamond Piers: In areas with weak soil, we use Diamond Piers, which use long metal rods to provide better frost heave protection than traditional concrete footings.
Deck Framing
A solid deck frame starts with high-quality lumber. While treated lumber quality has declined and prices increased due to regulations and market factors, Platinum Decking uses only #1 and #2 green-treated Southern Pine for strength and consistency.
Varying lumber thickness can cause a “wave” effect with composite decking. To prevent this, we carefully select uniform lumber, and if needed, plane thicker boards to ensure a smooth, level surface. This extra step ensures your deck is both strong and aesthetically perfect.
The Deck Ledger Board
After installing the footings, the ledger board is attached to your house to secure the deck. We use FastenMaster LedgerLok screws to connect the ledger board to your home’s floor joists, ensuring the deck has the necessary support and strength.
For taller decks, we also install four Simpson Tension Ties for added stability. At Platinum Decking, safety is a top priority, and we never cut corners in building a strong, secure deck.
The Deck Frame
Once the ledger board is secured to your home’s floor joists, framing begins. Depending on the deck height and load requirements, we use 4×4 or 6×6 posts, fastened to the footings with galvanized bases to prevent movement over time. The posts connect to beams, which support the deck joists, spaced 16″ or 12″ apart based on your decking material.
4×4 posts are also used for securing the railing, fastened with Thruloks or Thrubolts for safety. To prevent lateral movement and enhance durability, stiff blocking is installed between the joists, ensuring your deck remains sturdy and safe for decades.
Installing the Decking and Fascia
Once the deck frame is complete, we begin installing your composite decking and fascia. The process may vary based on materials and design, but we use color-matched screws for perimeter boards and hidden fasteners for the main deck area to create a clean look.
We typically start with the “nose board,” the furthest from the house, then move toward the house, using hidden fasteners for most boards. Regular measurements ensure tight, even spacing, around a quarter inch, allowing proper airflow to dry the deck after moisture exposure.
After the decking is installed, we attach fascia to the rim-joist for added aesthetic appeal. Although fascia has no structural role, it enhances the deck’s appearance, giving it a polished finish. Vertical skirting, using deck boards beneath the fascia, is also an option for additional style.
We work with top composite brands like Trex and TimberTech Azek to ensure lasting quality.
Railings and Deck Lighting
Once the footings, framing, decking, and fascia are complete, we move on to railings and lighting.
Railings come in 6- or 8-foot sections for both stair and horizontal railings and can be cut to fit smaller areas. As we install railings, we also set up lighting, with post cap lights and downlights being the most popular. Other options include stair riser lights and recessed deck lights, with dimmer controls available for added convenience.
Cocktail railings, made from composite 2×4 boards (available in Trex Transcend Tropical colors), are a great option for entertaining, offering a surface to rest drinks on.
For projects requiring ADA handrails, we install Trex ADA-compliant handrails in black, bronze, or white to meet code requirements for graspable stair railings.
Each deck is unique, and while this is a general guide, we adapt as needed to deliver a custom, high-quality deck that suits your needs.
Patios
At Platinum Patio and Pavers, we take extra care in building a durable, long-lasting paver patio. We begin by excavating 8-10 inches into the ground—more than twice as deep as many other landscape companies. This deeper dig ensures a strong foundation. We then fill the area with crushed limestone, which is ideal for drainage and strength. The limestone allows water to filter safely through, directing it away from your home, preventing any potential water damage.
On top of the limestone base, we lay down landscape fabric to prevent weeds or unwanted plants from growing through your patio. Next, we add another layer of crushed limestone for added stability, followed by leveling sand to ensure a smooth, even surface for the pavers. Finally, we install high-quality Belgard concrete pavers, known for their durability and style.
To secure the patio, we use Perma-Edge Technology, which offers superior edge stability compared to the typical plastic edging often used by others. This method ensures your patio stays in place and retains its polished look for years to come.
Our commitment to quality and attention to detail is reflected in the feedback from our clients—earning us consistent 5-star reviews. Whether for entertaining or relaxing, a Platinum Patio and Paver project is built to last and enhance your outdoor space.
Deck and Patio Payment
At Platinum Deck and Patio, we aim to make the payment process simple and client-friendly. To reserve your spot on our schedule, we only require a 20% deposit upfront. We believe in trusting our customers, so we keep the majority of the cost in your hands until the project progresses.
About a few weeks to a month before your project begins, during the design consultation, we’ll ask for the next 40%. The final 40% isn’t due until the work is completed to your satisfaction. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality results and look forward to earning your 5-star review once everything is finished.
